Daylight Saving Time

You know that we are not “saving” daylight, right? This is a misnomer. The light is the same amount; time is man-made. We are all clear on this. The middle of the day is still when the sun is directly overhead, whether you call it 12:00 noon or 1:00 or 5:00.

On Sunday, November 1, 2026, there will be slightly less sunlight than on Saturday, October 31, 2026, not because we went from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time, but because the days get shorter due to the revolution of the Earth around the Sun on that day of the year.

I say change our schedules. Work 7:00 am to 4:00 pm if you want more light so you can get in 9 holes before going home. Or, if you like morning sunlight, work 9:00 to 6:00. We act as if the parameters we have set are set in stone. Let’s make some adjustments.

I’ve never celebrated Daylight Saving Time. It’s against my religion.

The House just passed a bill to have permanent Daylight Saving Time. What about Arizona and Hawaii? They don’t participate in the time change.

Let’s not have a time change twice a year, but let’s keep the time consistent with the sun. When a sundial says it is noon, it is noon.

This is all a perception problem. Getting up at 5:00 am sounds too early, so we change 5:00 am to be 6:00 am, and now it sounds acceptable. What the fuck??!! Truly a mind fuck in the making. Still, nobody has enough time in the day or enough sleep at night. Making Daylight Saving Time permanent is not going to fix these problems.

I had a co-worker who would get his monthly paycheck as a physical check (not direct deposit), would hold on to it for a week, and then deposit it into his bank account, making it only three weeks until he got paid again. This made him feel like he could make it to the next payday. This was how he budgeted. Self-induced mind fuckery.

This is what we are dealing with.

My biggest complaint about this whole thing: THIS is what we find important right now? People can’t afford gas, health insurance, or food. And what about the food? Should we figure out the explosive diarrhea conundrum? What about the wildfires? Climate crisis? The federal government is passing bills about a one-hour time change
